What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational Therapy is a healthcare profession concerned with aiding people with the activities of daily living. These include tasks such as cooking, cleaning, using the toileting/incontinence, personal hygiene, leisure activities, sleep/rest, social engagement, mobility, posture care, and pressure relief to name only a few.
Occupational Therapists are there to help people to more fully engage in everyday life!
What do Occupational Therapists do?
Occupational Therapists (OTs) are experts in the activities of daily living, which they call ‘occupations’. Occupational Therapists understand how illness, injury, disability, or challenging life events can affect people's ability to do the day-to-day things that are important for them.
Occupational Therapists know how to support people in reaching their maximum level of independence and autonomy, by both helping people to overcome their restrictions or adjusting their living environment to better suit their unique needs.
