Viagra FAQs

What is erectile dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common health condition characterised by the inability to achieve or maintain an erection firm enough for sex. It often involves reduced sexual desire and can be a source of significant distress for those affected. This condition is typically linked to issues with blood flow, where the blood vessels in your penis do not allow enough blood to flow into your penis to get or keep an erection. It's important to understand that experiencing erection problems occasionally is not usually a cause for concern. However, ongoing issues may indicate a more serious health problem or emotional or relationship difficulties that need addressing.

Erectile dysfunction can stem from various causes, including medical conditions, psychological factors like stress or sexual performance anxiety, or lifestyle choices. It's also more common as men age, though it's not an inevitable part of ageing. Men experiencing erection problems often find it challenging to talk about, but it's crucial to seek advice from a healthcare professional like a GP, pharmacist, or doctor. They can help identify the underlying cause and recommend appropriate treatment or lifestyle changes.

Does Viagra Connect help with erection problems?

For men experiencing erection problems, Viagra Connect is a targeted solution to help achieve and maintain an erection firm enough for sex. When a person is sexually aroused, the blood vessels in the penis become enlarged, allowing more blood to flow into the penis, resulting in an erection. It is important to note that this medication will not cause an erection on its own; rather, it helps to maintain an erection when sexually aroused.

How does Viagra Connect work?

Viagra Connect works by relaxing the blood vessels in the penis, allowing more blood to flow into it when sexually aroused. This increased blood flow helps to achieve and maintain an erection.

How long does it take Viagra Connect to work?

Viagra Connect typically starts to work within 30 to 60 minutes after taking a tablet. However, the onset and duration of action can vary depending on factors such as individual response, the presence of food in the stomach, and sexual stimulation.

How to take Viagra Connect

For those taking Viagra for the first time, to maximise its effectiveness, it's recommended to take the tablet with water about an hour before sexual activity and to avoid heavy or fatty meals that can delay absorption.

It's important to moderate alcohol consumption as excessive intake can diminish the medication's effects. Our knowledgeable pharmacy team is here to provide personalised guidance and support.

How often should you take Viagra Connect?

At Phelans Pharmacy, your health and safety are paramount. Always follow the guidelines for Viagra Connect: take no more than one tablet per day, as exceeding the 50mg dosage can be unsafe and cause serious side effects.

How do I know if Viagra Connect is right for me?

We provide Viagra online and in-store for adult men (over 18 years) with erectile dysfunction. It is essential to consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking Viagra Connect to assess suitability, consider medical history, and medications, and provide personalised dosage guidance. Trust Phelans Pharmacy for reliable support and access to Viagra Connect. Your well-being is our priority. Note: Viagra Connect is not suitable for women, individuals under 18, or those without erectile dysfunction.

Can I use Viagra Connect if I have an underlying medical condition?

Viagra Connect may not be suitable for individuals with certain medical conditions, such as severe heart or liver problems, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or a recent stroke or heart attack. This is why you’ll be asked a few straightforward questions about your health before we supply you with Viagra Connect.

Side effects of Viagra Connect

Like any medication, Viagra Connect can cause side effects in some individuals. Common side effects may include headache, facial flushing, indigestion, and nasal congestion. Serious side effects are rare but can include priapism (a prolonged and painful erection) and sudden vision or hearing loss. If you experience any severe or persistent side effects, you should seek immediate medical attention.

Can I take Viagra Connect if I'm currently using other erectile dysfunction treatments?

Combining Viagra Connect with other erectile dysfunction treatments, such as other medications or therapies, can increase the risk of side effects and complications. It's important to inform your healthcare professional about any other treatments you are using to ensure they can provide appropriate guidance.

Are you taking any other medicines:

To ensure your safety, our pharmacist will contact you to inquire about any other medications you may be using, as certain drugs can potentially interact with Viagra Connect. This step is necessary before we can provide you with this item.

Sildenafil Citrate: The active ingredient in Viagra Connect, Viagra, and Sildenafil

Sildenafil citrate stands as the primary active ingredient in Viagra Connect, Viagra, and Sildenafil. This chemical is known for its ability to enhance blood flow to the penis temporarily, facilitating an erection when one is sexually stimulated. Given that sildenafil citrate is the active ingredient in all three, they operate in fundamentally the same manner.

What is the difference between Viagra, Viagra Connect, and Sidena (generic Viagra)?

Viagra, Viagra Connect, and sildenafil (generic Viagra) are related medications used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED), but they have some differences:

Viagra: Viagra is a prescription medication, and is the branded version of sildenafil, developed by Pfizer. It was the first medication approved for the treatment of ED. Viagra is available in various dosage strengths, including 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg. A prescription is required to obtain Viagra.

Viagra Connect: Viagra Connect is an over-the-counter version of Viagra. Viagra Connect is designed for men over 18 years old and can be purchased without a prescription from pharmacies or authorised online retailers.

Sidena (generic Viagra): Sidena is the generic version of Viagra. Generic sildenafil is bioequivalent to Viagra, meaning it has the same effectiveness and safety profile. It is often available at a lower cost than the branded version and requires a prescription in most cases.
