A doctor should examine you first.\u003cbr\u003e- you have liver or kidney impairment. The doctor might adjust the dose.\u003cbr\u003e- you have ever suffered seizures\/fits (convulsions) or if you have other conditions which might make it more likely that you will have seizures\/fits , for example a head injury or alcoholism. Sumatran might increase the risk of fits. Your doctor may need to supervise you more closely.\u003cbr\u003e- you are allergic to certain antibiotics called sulfonamides. If so, you may also be allergic to sumatriptan.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSumatran must only be used if a diagnosis of “migraine” has been clearly established in your case and other factors have been excluded. Certain forms of migraine cannot be treated with sumatriptan.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAfter taking Sumatran you may feel pain in your chest and a feeling of pressure for a short time. This can be quite intensive and may radiate up towards your throat. In very rare cases this may be caused by effects on your heart. Therefore, if the symptoms do not disappear, contact your doctor.\u003cbr\u003eIf you take Sumatran too often, your headache may become worse. In this case, your doctor might recommend you stop taking Sumatran.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eChildren and adolescents\u003cbr\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSumatran is not recommended in children and adolescents below the age of 18 years.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOther medicines and Sumatran\u003cbr\u003eTell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.\u003cbr\u003eAn interaction means that medicines used at the same time can influence the effect(s) and\/or side effect(s) of each other. The following comments may also apply to medicines that you have used any time in the past or are to use in the near future.\u003cbr\u003e- Medicines containing ergotamine (migraine medicines, including methysergide) and triptans\/5-HT1 receptor agonists. These must not be taken at the same time as Sumatran (see “Do not take Sumatran”).\u003cbr\u003e- MAO inhibitors (e.g. moclobemide for depression or selegiline for Parkinson’s disease). Sumatran mustnot be taken at the same time as or within two weeks after stopping use of MAO inhibitors.\u003cbr\u003e- SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) or SNRIs (Serotonin Noradrenaline ReuptakeInhibitors) used to treat depression. Using Sumatran with these medicines can cause serotonin syndrome(a collection of symptoms which can include restlessness, confusion, sweating, hallucinations, increased reflexes, muscle spasms, shivering, increased heartbeat and shaking). Tell your doctor immediately if you are affected in this way.\u003cbr\u003e- Herbal products containing St John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum). Side effects may occur with greater frequency.\u003cbr\u003ePlease note that the above medicines may be known to you by other names, often the brand names. In this section only the active substance or therapeutic group of the medicine is given, not the specific brand names.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ePregnancy and breast-feeding\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIf you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.\u003cbr\u003eDuring pregnancy, Sumatran must only be taken following consultation with your doctor. Sumatran should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the unborn child and no other appropriate treatment option is available.\u003cbr\u003eSumatriptan passes into breast milk. You are advised not to breast-feed within 12 hours after taking Sumatran. Do not feed your child with milk expressed during this period.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eDriving and using machines\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003eMigraine itself as well as using Sumatran can cause drowsiness, dizziness and weakness which may adversely affect your speed of reaction.
